Veterans Day Reflection 2024

November 11th, 2024

Veterans Day brings Americans together in gratitude, honoring the brave men and women who have courageously served our country. It is easy to forget their sacrifice. At Pacifica, we want to remember all they have done to secure our freedom and protect our rights. We look to their commitment to duty for inspiration as we balance our rights with our responsibilities to our neighbors.

Veterans Day began as "Armistice Day" on November 11, 1919, marking the end of World War I. In 1954, it was renamed "Veterans Day" to honor all veterans who have served in both war and peacetime, safeguarding our nation's ideals.

At Pacifica Christian High School, we deeply value courage, sacrifice, and perseverance—qualities our veterans embody. They exemplify the courage to face adversity on behalf of their fellow citizens, often putting themselves in harm's way to defend our country. We honor their sacrifices, recognizing that they have willingly left behind families, homes, and personal ambitions to answer the call of duty. Their perseverance in the face of unimaginable hardship serves as a profound example for all of us. Veterans remind us that true strength is not just physical but an enduring commitment to stand up for what is right, even when the cost is high.

In honoring veterans, we celebrate their legacy and reflect on how we might live out these same values in our lives and communities. As students, faculty, and staff at Pacifica, we are inspired to pursue courage by standing up for our beliefs, sacrifice by putting the needs of others first, and perseverance by striving to overcome our challenges. On Veterans Day, let us not only express our gratitude for their service but also commit ourselves to a life that honors their values. To all veterans, we thank you and honor you. Your legacy inspires us.
