Meet Karla Herrera, Spanish Teacher

August 29th, 2024

Karla Herrera joins Pacifica’s teaching staff as our new Spanish teacher after spending eight years teaching Spanish and French at a different private school. We are excited to welcome her to our school and continue the development of our foreign language department.

Señora Herrera’s parents and older brother were born in Guatemala, immigrated to the United States, and settled in Northern California. She was born and raised in the South Bay Area until attending college at Cal State Long Beach. She studied Spanish with a focus in Literature while in college, but moved to France after graduating to study the French language as well.

“My biggest takeaway from college is that you should never be afraid to humble yourself,” said Señora Herrera. “Never be afraid to say ‘I don’t know’ and always be open to learning new things.”

After France, Karla returned to California to begin her teaching career. Señora Herrera was also raised Christian, which she says has deeply shaped who she is as a person and helped her cultivate the fruits of the spirit. She comments that these qualities have helped in her teaching career throughout the years. Now, she begins her journey at Pacifica.

She is excited to be at Pacifica with like-minded people who share her faith. Karla is looking forward to helping students develop their language skills and getting them to a point where they can confidently converse with others in the target language. She also hopes to help point students towards unity with each other.

“I hope students realize the power of community and connection,” said Señora Herrera. “We are all connected as a human race and we should strive to connect with all people, of all races, and all walks of life. Learning another language is just one way for us to be able to do that.”

We are greatly looking forward to Señora Herrera’s presence at Pacifica and can’t wait to see the mark she makes on our school. In her free time, Karla likes to stay active by running marathons and doing yoga. She also loves spending time with her Maltipoo Kobe!
