Cross Country Team Competes in Oahu

December 11th, 2022

This past weekend the Pacifica cross country team took the boys and girls squads to Oahu, Hawaii, where they competed in the ’Iolani Cross Country Invitational. This was the first time the school participated in Hawaii’s premier invitational in the lush Kaaawa Valley.

The Seawolves were able to compete against some of the best teams Hawaii has to offer as well as some of the top teams throughout the country. Pacifica is no stranger to tough competition, often playing against teams from schools twice its size. The setting was picturesque, and the race took place where Jurassic Park was filmed.

Each race consisted of over 200 individual runners and 20 teams. The team held their own and ran well as they competed for the top spots, led by senior Moony Warfield on the boys’ side and freshman Ty Hampton on the girls’ team.

This incredible opportunity would not be possible without the dedication and leadership of coach Brandon Shaw, who is no stranger to Pacifica titles in cross country and track. Coach Shaw has already taken two girls’ teams to the state finals and has developed the overall program into one of the most consistent and popular teams in Southern California.

“This was absolutely an amazing experience to relax, bond as a team, and compete at the highest level,” says Shaw. “So glad to be invited to compete in beautiful Hawaii and looking forward to doing it again next year.”
