Meet Timothy Carel, Pacifica Senior
October 3rd, 2023
Timothy Carel, current Pacifica senior, is pursuing a unique passion in the midst of his studies. In addition to the demands of a full class schedule, Timothy is involved in competitive go kart and race car racing, and has plans to go pro. He has been racing for five years now, with four years of go karting under his belt and one year of car racing, which is what he will continue doing this year. Timothy’s dad was a driver, and was the one who introduced him to the sport. Since he began racing, he’s earned several titles and awards, putting him on the map as one to watch in the racing world. His titles include being the 2018 Los Angeles Karting Champion in X30 Junior Novice, the 2020 California Rok Championship Rok Junior Champion, and the 2022 NASA ST3 SoCal Champion.
Starting in 2024, Timothy will join the USF Junior Championship presented by Cooper Tires, which is the first official step to the USF Pro Championships and will pave the way for a scholarship-funded path to the IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500. The USF Junior Championship also serves as the first step in graduating drivers from racing go karts to race cars. This year, Timothy will begin racing with the Jay Howard Driver Development team to help him further hone his skills and continue being a competitive force in the world of racing.
The competition is fierce, but that’s part of what Timothy loves about the sport. “I enjoy it because it’s so competitive and fast,” he says. “I love the adrenaline rush I get every time I step into a race car.”
While Timothy spends countless hours on the racetrack, Pacifica has been there to support his journey and make sure he’s on top of his schoolwork. In fact, the high-level academics are what he loves most about Pacifica. Timothy says he enjoys his classes because they are the aspect of being a Seawolf that he focuses on the most, and his teachers make classes enjoyable. His junior year philosophy class is one that sticks out to Timothy due to the genuine and meaningful conversations he had with his teacher.
Timothy found Pacifica by hearing about it through the grapevine at Calvary Christian Middle School. It was recommended to him as a place to further his education with great people, and he agrees that that is what Pacifica has given him. In reflecting on his experience at Pacifica so far, Timothy says that he has learned a lot about work ethic.
“I’ve learned that when I put a lot of work into something, it is achievable through perseverance.”
As a senior, Timothy is now exploring his college options and looks forward to where he will end up. We can’t wait to see where he goes next and the Wolfpack will be cheering him on on the race track this season!
