Meet JJ Martin, Pacifica Junior
January 17th, 2023
Read about Pacifica junior JJ Martin’s experience as a Seawolf student-athlete on our basketball team.
Pacifica student JJ Martin is well into his junior year and is now beginning his next basketball season as a Seawolf. Come see him and the other members of our boys’ varsity basketball team play at our Homecoming game on January 14, 2023!
This past summer, JJ had the opportunity to play organized AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball at the high school level. Not only did he learn plenty of new skills and grow as a basketball player but he also gained irreplaceable memories while traveling to places such as Orlando, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs for tournaments. By the end of the summer, JJ was getting noticed by Division 1 schools and even received an offer to play for Arizona State University. Playing on an AAU team also helped build his confidence and allowed him to make many new friends. JJ is grateful to have had this opportunity and is excited to see what his junior year holds for him at Pacifica.
What do you love most about Pacifica?
I love how involved the faculty is with the students and how close and connected everyone is with one another.
What is one word that best describes the school and why?
Diligent. Pacifica wants the best for each and every student here and aspires to be better than what they were the day before.
Describe one of your favorite teachers and the impact they’ve had on your life.
One of my favorite teachers is Mr. Roberson. The debates and discussions we have in his class are very beneficial to my understanding of life.
Why did you decide to attend Pacifica?
I decided to attend Pacifica because I felt they cared deeply about me and would best prepare me for my future.
How is Pacifica a Christian school, and why is this important to you?
Even without having Christian in their name, I believe you would still be able to tell that Pacifica is a Christian school. The entire school attends chapel, which is basically where we devote our time and faith to God. Being a Christian myself, this is important to me because it gives me a time where I can look inward and look for ways to improve as a person and as a Christian.
In what ways is Pacifica preparing you for college and beyond?
They hold us accountable and give us proper tools that we can utilize in the next stage of our lives. They shape us to be independent early on so that we don’t lack responsibility and are more prepared for adulthood.
What would you tell a friend to encourage them to attend Pacifica?
Pacifica won’t just make you a better student but will also make you a better person.
