Meet Jeremy Tuggy, Athletics Assistant

May 9th, 2024

Jeremy Tuggy came on staff this year in the Pacifica Athletics office after serving as our golf coach for the past two years. Now, he’s our Athletics Assistant and baseball coach as well! Coach Tuggy graduated from UCLA in 2015 with a degree in Psychology. However, right after graduating, he began playing in pro golf tournaments at the mini tour level. He went on to compete for seven years before deciding to make the switch to coaching.

Throughout his time playing golf and baseball in high school, Jeremy’s dad ingrained three rules into him: play hard, play with character, and have fun. He has carried these principles into his playing career and coaching style today– as well as his pursuit of God through sports.

“As I pursued a career in golf, God used the principles of athletic competition and physical fitness to teach me about how to train for godliness,” said Jeremy. “Golf and baseball are full of opportunities for spiritual growth. I coach at Pacifica because I believe that God uses our athletic endeavors to mature our faith, which is immeasurably valuable.”

Coach Tuggy loves seeing his players understand the bigger picture of the game as a coach. His favorite moments of coaching come when players internalize the belief that their coaches and teammates have in them. He says he loves the aha moments when the team realizes how much more they are capable of when they build each other up. This supportive community is the environment Coach Tuggy instills into the teams he coaches. However, the knowledge that he hopes his players leave Pacifica with is much greater than a lesson about golf or baseball.

“When the prodigal son is far from home, he remembers how good he had it in his father’s house,” said Jeremy. “I want students to graduate with the fondest memories of God’s goodness to them during their time at Pacifica so that wherever they find themselves, they can remember who they are in Christ.”

In his free time, Coach Tuggy is slowly learning how to play guitar and produce music. He and his wife like to bring their camera on scenic hikes before eating at a gluten free restaurant!
